Capacity building is the process of reducing reliance on experts outside a community as resources for solutions to issues a community is facing, encouraging local people to be involved themselves.
Capacity-building refers to the process of strengthening the abilities, knowledge, and skills of individuals, organizations, and communities to effectively address and solve problems they face. It involves empowering local people and encouraging their active involvement in finding solutions to the challenges and issues affecting their community. One important aspect of capacity building is reducing reliance on external experts or organizations and promoting local ownership and self-sufficiency.
To encourage local people to be involved in addressing community issues, capacity building initiatives focus on creating opportunities for skill development, knowledge sharing, and fostering a sense of ownership. This process begins by identifying the specific needs and priorities of the community through participatory approaches, where local stakeholders actively contribute their perspectives and insights. By involving community members from the outset, they become active participants rather than passive recipients of external solutions.
Capacity building also emphasizes the transfer of knowledge and skills to community members, enabling them to become self-reliant problem solvers.
